Winter pleasures

Winter is often perceived as a season where cold and darkness take precedence over fun and adventure!

Winter is often perceived as a season when cold and darkness take precedence over fun and adventure. Yet it’s amazing how many ways there are to enjoy the outdoors during this cold period. And let’s not forget that in Canada, we’re privileged to have four beautiful and very different seasons, including winter, which offers us snow-covered landscapes, sporting activities and the beauty of nature that gives this chilly season its charm!

The first thing that hits in winter is the transformation of our environment. The trees put on their white coat, and each snowflake shines like a small diamond in the sun. Frozen rivers and lakes transform into natural ice rinks, while snow-covered fields and forests offer breathtaking panoramas. Walking through these enchanting landscapes, whether through a silent forest or on a snowy path, provides an unparalleled feeling of serenity. The beauty of winter invites contemplation and reconnection with nature.

Let’s talk about leisure activities! Winter offers a vivid inventory of outdoor activities that appeal to young and old alike. Fatbikes, snowboards and the like attract thrill-seekers, while hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing let you discover nature at a gentler, more leisurely pace. For those who prefer gentler activities, a simple stroll with family or friends in the forest or snow-covered streets can be transformed into a moment of joy when, slyly, we throw a snowball fight or bring out our engineering talents to make the craziest snowman ever!

Let’ s not forget our Canadian wildlife, because winter is also an ideal time to observe these majestic beasts. Some animals, like deer and birds, are more visible as they move about in search of food, while others are more discreet. Taking the time to observe these creatures in their natural habitat is an enriching and soothing experience. We’ re even lucky enough to have the Musée de la Biodiversité du Québec in the region, where you can learn more about our little animal companions. where you can learn more about our little animal companions.

Outdoor activities in winter are also good for your health. The cold stimulates the metabolism and helps burn calories. What’s more, physical exercise, even at low intensity, boosts the immune system and improves mood. Not to mention the fact that cold weather encourages the body to work harder to warm up, and therefore burn more calories. What’s more, exposure to daylight, even in small amounts or on cloudy days , helps boost vitamin D levels and combat seasonal depression. Fresh, clean air revitalizes and boosts our general well-being.

Winter is also synonymous with warm shared moments or, if you prefer, cocooning. After a day spent playing, running, skating outside, admit that there is nothing better than getting together around a good hot chocolate, a sweet coffee or even, in milder weather, around a good fire! Here, it’s inevitable! We stuff ourselves with marshmallows (what?! What do you put in your hot chocolate?), we “sweeten our coffee” with a drop of Irish cream (don’t make me believe you don’t do that!) and we snuggle up under a cozy duvet from my grandmother, which creates unforgettable memories. Other than in the warm comfort of our home, gatherings around winter activities, such as festivals or Christmas markets, strengthen social bonds and promote a community spirit.

The pleasures of the winter outdoors are many and varied. They remind us that each season has its own charm and that, even in the cold, it ‘s possible to find beauty and joy. So put on your gloves, get out your sunglasses and discover the wonders thatwinter has to offer. The cold season can be a source of happiness and adventure, as long as you dare to brave the low temperatures and let yourself be carried away by the enchantment of winter.
