“We do not inherit the earth from our parents, we borrow it from our children”
– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Since 2021, a strategy to do our part for the environment and sustainable development has been established. It is through vision and concrete action that we can, together, maximize our social and economic impact and reduce the environmental footprint of our activities!
Because sustainable development is also what Parc de la rivière Gentilly is all about!
Parc de la rivière Gentilly has extensive expertise in the sustainable development of its services. Each of our services incorporates the principles of sustainable development, in particular preserving and promoting health and quality of life, environmental protection, citizen participation and involvement, access to knowledge, prevention, protection of cultural heritage and preservation of biodiversity.
The Park is committed to sustainable development through a number of concrete actions:
- Involvement of the Park ‘sBoard of Directors and teams;
- Deployment of communication strategies;
- Integrating sustainable development into the strategic plan ;
- Optimizing waste management.
Supported by the Régie intermunicipale de gestion intégrée des déchets Bécancour-Nicolet-Yamaska and the SADC Nicolet-Bécancour, since May 2021 we have been proud to offer waste management to our customers. Always with the aim of offering our customers a pleasant natural experience, but with a view to protecting the environment. That’s why, from the moment they arrive, we make all our campers and hikers aware of the importance of properly managing their residual materials during their stay or visit. Reducing environmental impacts while maximizing social and economic benefits, for a socially equitable, ecologically viable and economically profitable world.

Environmental dimension :
- Improved waste sorting by visitors;
- 50% reduction in organic waste disposed of in the garbage in high and low seasons;
- Offer visitors with electric cars the possibility of recharging their vehicles during their stay;
- Construction of infrastructure to regularize the drinking water situation.
Economic dimension :
- Ensure infrastructure compliance and durability;
- Evaluate eco-costs (benefits and spin-offs). The re-evaluation of the price scale should enable us to move towards a balanced budget;
- Reduce office material costs (paper, etc.) by 20%. Reduce hand paper costs: evaluate the option of hand dryers to save $3800/year.
Social dimension :
- Increased commitment and sense of belonging among employees and directors;
- Revision of structure and tasks (permanent employees vs. student jobs ) considering the time costs involved in coordinating students );
- Improved team efficiency and internal communication;
- Offer adapted physical spaces for customers with reduced mobility. Increase the number of customers with reduced mobility by 5%.
Governance:
- Develop a tool to anchor sustainable development in the organization’ s vision and practices. Develop a project analysis grid ;
- Integrate sustainable development strategies and messages into the Park ‘s communications (and marketing) plan;
- Promote the park ‘s involvement in the community and vice versa. Foster a sense of belonging and pride in the park on the part of the community and its partners.
